I finally went in to get tested for
Lasik (laser eye surgery) about a week ago. The testing took about an hour and a half, and I left with very tired eyes which remained dialated for the next three hours. Well, it seems I am now a candidate to go through with the surgery. I have pretty large pupils, a very strong prescription (-6.4), and astigmatism, so I was pretty sure they were going to turn me down! Maybe they just want my business? I went to
LasikPlus (a national chain) on the East Beltline in Grand Rapids.
The surgery makes me very nervous, and I would love to talk to someone (anyone!) who has had it done, and to hear their thoughts on the process, recovery, etc... I have so many 'what-if's' going through my head, and really don't want to raise my children not being able to see at all!
Please let me know your thoughts on this, good or bad, to help me go through with actually scheduling (or cancelling) my surgery appointment.
Comments, anyone?

Hi Kristin!
I had Lasik done 1 year ago this past October. I went to a place in Kalamazoo that my eye dr. referred me too. Right now I'm blanking on the name though...anyways, I also have a astigmatism. The surgery went fine. The recovery is minimal, the following day is probably the worst. YOu sleep most of the time afterwards the day of...
I love no glasses, and I have 20/15vision now;)
Hope this helps

I have not had it done but am also considering it. I was talking about it one night at work (I work in an Urgent Care) and one of the Dr's said she had had it done 4-5 years ago and had no problems at all. She actually went to a concert the next night and could see fine. Pain was very minimal the first night and almost gone the next day, like I said she went to a concert that night.
She did say she would go to Canada to have it done if she had to do it over. It's so much cheaper and some of the clinics there do thousands more procedures than ours here, so they have more experience.
Good luck!
I just told my husband last week how much I want to get Lasik surgery! I have a strong scrip too and an astigmatism.
My sister used to work for an eye doctor and warned me sternly to chose a certain kind of doctor to do lasik. Of course I can't remember at all now, but I'll ask her again if your interested. I know she saw some bad cases come through their office so her warnings didn't fall on deaf ears = )
I hope you went through with it. It's the best thing I've ever done in my life! I had a -6.75. The 3 minutes it takes for the surgery is well worth a lifetime of dealing with the pain of glasses and contacts in order to see the world. When you wake up, wait, you can't see anything until you put your eyes in. I also went to Lasik Plus. Did you end up doing it?
