Paid, Packed, and ready to Ship!

I have been designing a lot for makers of soap lately. These cute labels were part of the Reed Diffusers, and Body Wash sets for Scoop Beauty, of Laguna Beach, California. This is her third order, and Theresa is great to work with, not to mention VERY UNDERSTANDING when things do not deliver as promised by the United Postal Service!

Thanks for the order, it was shipped this morning (overnight!).

A little out of hand... Clothes for my kids

Okay, I know all this sewing is getting a little out of hand, BUT… my girls really needed some fleece pants for running around the house! Actually, they have more clothes than you can shake a stick at, but there was just this one item they didn’t have, and their wardrobe just wasn’t complete without it!

Of course I had to make my own pattern for them since I didn’t care to waste the gas driving to Field’s Fabrics to get one. Besides, I knew I wouldn’t be happy with any of the designs I found anyway. I have been wanting to try a ruffle on the bottom for a while, and fleece is just the fabric to work with… it is very forgiving! Just my style!

I kinda made a pattern by tracing a pair of their sweatpants that I really liked the fit. I then transfered the pattern to the fleece and cut out four pieces. Sewed a little, added the ruffle on the bottom, sewed a little more, added the ribbon, sewed the waistband on, and added the elastic to keep them from falling off. They turned out a little long for the girls, but I think they’ll fit through next winter as a size 2T-3T. Perfect!

Oh... and the cute kids? They came from me! ♥

Lasik, anyone?

I finally went in to get tested for Lasik (laser eye surgery) about a week ago. The testing took about an hour and a half, and I left with very tired eyes which remained dialated for the next three hours. Well, it seems I am now a candidate to go through with the surgery. I have pretty large pupils, a very strong prescription (-6.4), and astigmatism, so I was pretty sure they were going to turn me down! Maybe they just want my business? I went to LasikPlus (a national chain) on the East Beltline in Grand Rapids.
The surgery makes me very nervous, and I would love to talk to someone (anyone!) who has had it done, and to hear their thoughts on the process, recovery, etc... I have so many 'what-if's' going through my head, and really don't want to raise my children not being able to see at all!

Please let me know your thoughts on this, good or bad, to help me go through with actually scheduling (or cancelling) my surgery appointment.

Comments, anyone?

Shop Spotlight & Giveaway ♥ ColorMeCute

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED ♥♥ WINNER: Rochelle Heyboer

See this cute bib? It's up for grabs this week!

Heidi runs ColorMeCute, this week's "Shop Spotlight" and I just LOVE her stuff! (She also happens to be my cousin! ♥) She just opened up her shop in December 2008 and already has almost 50 sales! That blows my first three months of business out of the water! Wow!
I guess I really shouldn’t be that surprised though, she is offering such a great product! We have a mutual customer in Amy over at LottieDa as well, and Amy couldn't say enough about the items she recieved! She will be including them in gift-baskets to sell in her boutique in Columbus, OH.
Personally, I have seen these bibs in action and am super impressed. The laminated ones are great for feeding, and the others are made with cotton with a terry backing so they look great on your sweetie, and protect their clothes from drool too! Yay! Did I mention the price? At only $7.00 each or 3/$15.00, they are affordable too! This week she is offering a “Secret Sale” to get 10% off a $35 order just by mentioning key code “MyTwoBabes” at Etsy checkout.
The Giveaway!! You will have your choice of one of the two bibs shown on this blog post when your name is drawn. The giveaway starts today and I will be picking a winner using Random.org on Friday morning, February 27,2009.
To register you will have to check-out ColorMeCute and let us know what item is a must-have for your little one by leaving a comment below this post. You can get one additional registration in for each of the following three options: 1. Become a Follower! :) 2. You can grab the MyTwoBabes button in the right column and add it to your blog, or 3. Post a note on your blog about this post, linking back to MyTwoBabes. Just make sure you leave another comment to let us know you did this!

Sam + Mary = Love ♥♥

The Flowers, originally uploaded by mytwobabes.

A week ago I shot a local wedding. Rochelle came along, and between the two of us we captured some very memorable moments! It was fun shooting with a friend and since we have very distinct styles and our cameras are different, at times we captured the same instant in our own special way. It also created a greater variety of photos for Mary to choose from on the final CD.
I such a great time, getting to know Mary and Sam a little better, and meeting all their fabulous friends and family. May they be blessed with rich abundance in their new life together!

By the way... for all you photography junkies out there... This photo was edited to achieve the focus/blur with my Corel Photopaint X3 design program. It was not a setting on my camera. Let me know if you are interested in finding out how!

Etsy Shop Success Tips

Etsy Product Packaging, originally uploaded by mytwobabes.

Etsy is a great marketplace. As a seller, I am always searching out the best way to market my products!

I have been reading lots of great tips from successful "Etsians" like MaryMarie and thought I would offer some tips myself! I am not an authority by any means, but have definately learned a thing or two over the last year! Most of it the hard way!

Tip 1: Take a personal interest in your customer. Know where they live, what their shop is like, and check-out their favorites. It will help you get to know your basic demographic for product development.

Tip 2: Make sure to include a personal note with all your sold items. A personalized thank-you adds a touch of thoughtfulness they may not have found in another shop. It also makes it more likely your customer will share the business cards you included in the package, with a friend.

Tip 3: Product packaging is key! I love to recieve gifts in the mail, and I want my customers to feel like they are really getting something special. When products go out for MyTwoBabes, I always include two business cards, a $1.00 giftcard toward their next purchase, and special product packaging with their hand-written Thank You note. (See the pic above.)

Tip 4: Make sure you have the correct postage on your package when shipping. If you do not, the recipient on the other end will have to pay the difference! You definately don't want to do that to a valued customer!

Tip 5: Keep track of the expense it takes to run your shop. This includes your supplies, inventory, shipping, marketing, and Etsy/PayPal fees. To help with this I use a PayPal debit card for all my Etsy supply purchases and to make sure that any money made on Etsy goes right back into the business. I also created an Excel spreadsheet to track how much it costs for each purchase made. Hopefully I'll be turning a profit soon, but for now, I work for 'free' - I'll have to figure out how to incorporate an hourly wage soon!

Hope this helps! I am sure I'll be learning more along the way!
I'll try to pass on any new ideas!

Flickr Love!

flickr love!, originally uploaded by mytwobabes.

I think Flickr is great.

I love that you can see other people's pictures, and download them as well in their original size. This works well to post a tutorial, as well getting pictures that my dad takes and uploads to his photostream. The photo resolution is great, and the networking is excellent!

There are many groups to join to make a collection of similar photos, or projects. Just today I joined the Sew,Mama,Sew, Wow! Sew Original, I made it Myself groups. I also subscribed to the feeds so I could know when new items are posted.

Photography and Sewing... could it get much better?!

Elijah Bossenbroek

A Song Of Simplicity - These bloopers are hilarious

I love this song by Elijah Bossenbroek, he is originally from Grand Rapids, so you know I love supporting the locals!
Here is a description pulled from his website:
"He started playing the piano at age six, but wasn't a typical piano player. He often hated the dull repetition behind learning notes and playing to metronomes. Frustrated, Elijah began writing his own piano compositions at age fourteen. At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he spent the better part of 5 years traveling to places such as Mississippi, Japan, California, and Kuwait."

I close my eyes to listen to this song on my iPod, it is amazing! Enjoy!

I can follow a Pattern!! ♥

On Saturday I thought I would get some sewing done. I bought a great pattern for this purse from Beki the Artsy Crafty Babe and thought I could get it finished in time for my birthday on Sunday. You know, as a birthday present to me (because you know my hubby didn't get anything! ♥♥).

The bag took four hours, and a lot of concentration, but was well worth it!
I finished the purse and am elated with how it turned out, this is the first time I followed an actual pattern... usually I just make one for myself. I might shrink the pattern down and make mini-purses for my girls; they have already expressed their love for anything girly!

Guess an independent gal can follow instructions every once in a while!

Britney got off with a scratch... no hair cut! yay! (I guess!) ♥

My girls recently turned two and boy do I know it! Anyway... I was hanging out with my girls in the family room, also trying to get cutting and ironing done on my sewing project with them around. I walked out for 5 minutes to make a few quick seams, and came back to a new hair-do for Brooke, nice SHORT bangs!
I guess Brit's practicing early, apparently she wants to be a hair-stylist! I think Brooke tried to get Brit as well, but missed, since she has a big scratch across her forehead! Oh well... looks like I'll have to keep everything under lock and key at least until they are a little older!
Brooke's new 'hair-cut' - thanks to her sister!

I long for the day...

I LOVE this braid! Oh how I long for the day when either of my girls has hair long enough to do this with! Valentines is by far my favorite holiday (who doesn't love LOVE!) and this just takes the cake! I guess I will just have to stick with the heart applique t-shirts, and pink ruffley socks for now! You can find instructions on how to do this braid by visiting the blog Girly Do's by Jenn.

Also, thanks to Jen over at All Things Ribbon for the cute note today, I can't wait to work on the graphics for our trade, and get the cute bows from you in the mail!! Yay!

Amy Butler Towel & Potholder set

I made this towel and potholder set a few weeks ago, and am pretty happy with how it turned out. Now my problem is actually getting myself to use them! I don't want them to get dirty! Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of having a potholder or towel in the first place?
I guess I get to replace my old dingy stuff with this cute stuff, and I'll have to suck it up and dig on in! Am I the only one that gets this crazy about using new clean stuff?!!

The Boy Labels are here!

I want you moms of boys to know I haven't forgotten about you!

I knew I had to design a set of boy labels that would wow you too, so here they are! I named these the "Lucas" set, and they come in new colors as well. You can choose from Sky Blue, Apple Green, Black, or Red. There are more sets to come with little stars on them, similar to the Madison set of the girls design... but are not quite ready for posting yet. If you are interested, you can always order the "Madison" set and just leave me a note when you checkout, I will send you a proof before production.

Let me know if you have suggestions for other designs, I am always interested in new inspiration!

300 Hearts!

In Etsy World, hearts are the number of people who have marked you as a favorite shop of theirs to follow.

Today I hit 300 Hearts!!! ♥
This is soooooo exciting, and a great achievement. I am really thrilled that it came before my one year mark, and have now set a new goal to reach 600 hearts by next year!! Maybe this is expecting to much, but with almost 75 hits a day in my shop, I am hoping at least a couple of you decide to stay and look around!

Thank You to all of you who have 'hearted' me, and I plan to heart many of you as well in the coming year! I appreciate your kindness! ♥ ♥ ♥

Here is a screen shot from CraftCult.com - a souce for tracking your hearts on Etsy. I like that I can see who has a shop and visit it right away. I love to keep business between Etsy friends!

Thanks, Amy!

Last week I recieved the cutest sippy cups you have ever seen! It is so fun getting packages in the mail from all my new Etsy friends!
I just love them, and my girls think using a straw is the coolest thing, perfect timing for my little two year olds! If they are happy, I am a happy momma!! ♥
Amy over at Angel Accents did a wonderful job on the embroidery, and they are actually on laminated fabric, so I don't have to worry about the material in case they may get wet, either way they are fully enclosed in the casing so it shouldn't be a problem.
She even sent the black/white/pink versions at no extra charge! I am very excited with how they are coordinating but not matching exactly, that is what I try to do with the girls outfits everyday as well, so it is perfect!
Kudos to you Amy!!!
